With production on The Mandalorian & Grogu movie beginning this year, the cast and crew are gearing up for The Mandalorian’s next chapter – and one cast member seems to be teasing their character’s return. Simon Kassianides made his Star Wars debut as Axe Woves in The Mandalorian season 2, a Nite Owl who remained loyal to Bo-Katan Kryze until she lost the Darksaber to Din Djarin. The Mandalorian season 3 saw Axe go from fighting with Bo-Katan to serving her loyally at her side once again, and it seems viewers haven’t seen the last of him.
An Instagram post by Kassianides (via Mando3Updates) shows him “getting fit for a role” in a meaningful caption about fatherhood and fitness, which has instantly sparked curiosity from avid The Mandalorian enthusiasts. With production on The Mandalorian & Grogu reportedly starting this summer, many have wondered in his comments if this role he’s referring to is Axe Woves. One comment inquiring directly about Axe has been liked by Kassianides, which only further teases the very real potential of Axe returning to Star Wars in The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Axe Woves’ Return Could Mean Mandalore’s Return : Will Din Djarin & Grogu Help Their Homeworld Again?
If Kassianides’ teasing on social media pays off and Axe Woves does return in The Mandalorian & Grogu, then this could have major implications for the storyline, particularly where Mandalore is concerned. With Din Djarin and Grogu set on a new path, working under-the-table for the New Republic while living in peaceful solitude on Nevarro, a strong focus on Mandalore doesn’t naturally seem to be in the cards for them. As a trusted advisor of Bo-Katan’s on Mandalore, however, Axe’s return would challenge this idea, and would likely give Mandalore a strong role in this movie.

The inclusion of Mandalore doesn’t have to mean that Din Djarin and Grogu will be cast aside. Especially now that Din Djarin is associating himself further with the New Republic, it could even be that he becomes the liaison between Mandalore and the galaxy’s central government, which would make him an extremely key figure in this overarching story.
Whatever the case, it’s still thrilling to think about Axe Woves’ potential return, as well as a return to Mandalore. It was never hard to guess that Mandalore would be featured in some way in this movie, given how important the planet is to this group that has since become one of Star Wars’ most beloved and popular. There would never be a pass on the opportunity to showcase Mandalore on the big screen, and Kassianides’ Axe making a potential return would only guarantee the planet’s appearance in The Mandalorian & Grogu movie.
