‘This Case Is Important’: Gina Carano Shares New Update on Disney Lawsuit

Gina Carano has provided the latest update on her lawsuit against Disney related to losing her role in the Star Wars franchise. She’s also looking to clear the air on a rumor about how the legal battle is going.

On X, the social media platform whose owner is backing the lawsuit against Disney, Carano shared how she was heading to federal court in Los Angeles to see if the judge would approve or deny Disney and Lucasfilm’s motion to have her complaint dismissed. It would seem that more time was needed to decide, as Carano stated afterward that the judge had pushed it back, but promised that a decision would be made in the near future.

“My hope is that this judge allows me to proceed in presenting my case and denies dismissal. My lawyers and I believe deeply that it should move forward,” Carano said. “Thank you all for your positivity, thoughts and prayers and thank you to [Elon Musk and X] for the opportunity to be here. Humbled and Grateful. Gods will be done.”

“Disney should not have carte blanch authority to fire any actor just because Disney disagrees with something they say outside of work.”

“In the beautiful halls of the federal court in Los Angeles I was quite amazed at its splendor,” Carano said in her update post after seeing the judge. “I half expected to see Tom Cruise come sailing down the center like in the Mission: Impossible movies. Having just left court, the judge said she would issue a ruling in the near future. This case is important beyond just me. Disney should not have carte blanch authority to fire any actor just because Disney disagrees with something they say outside of work. No actor would be free to have a voice if that were true. I look forward to this case moving forward and proving Disney’s blatant discriminatory actions.”

To be clear, the judge has only postponed making a decision on whether to dismiss the complaint, and it has not been ruled that Carano can move forward with the lawsuit. An X post made by Daily Wire News erroneously reported that Carano can “proceed” with her wrongful termination suit, and that prompted a response from the Cara Dune actress. She said that while that was the outcome she was hoping for, Carano clarified that the decision hadn’t yet been made.

“I’m sorry this is not real news,” she said. “The judge has not issued a ruling as of yet that I am aware of. I’ve informed the Daily Wire News team and they will be issuing a correction. This would indeed be an incredible outcome but no ruling has been made as of yet. Just to be transparent. Thank you again for the support.”

Disney Argues Gina Carano Misconstrues Her Star Wars Exit

It’s not clear yet exactly when said decision will be made. In Disney’s motion to have the suit tossed, it was argued that Carano “misconstrues the allegations in her own complaint.” It was also stressed that Disney is protected by the First Amendment with the decision to cut ties with Carano following controversial posts made on social media.

“Carano says her statements were inoffensive and did not impair Disney’s art. But for purposes of this lawsuit, that judgment is not hers to make,” the motion’s paperwork stated. “As the Supreme Court has explicitly held, litigants and courts must defer to an expressive entity’s own view of what associations may impair its speech. Carano’s suit should be dismissed.”
